Lipovox featured on Oprah’s “How to Look 10 Years Younger in 10 Days.” As you know, we are very skeptical of pills, potions, and powders that promise quick weight loss. Most of these products are nothing more than hype and charlatism where you lose nothing but your money.

We are very impressed with Dr. Perricone’s approach to lasting weight loss and in particular his recommendation for the appropriate blend of vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids. Lipovox contains these blood sugar-lowering and fat burning nutrients and when combined with the principles of “The Neuropsychology of Weight Control” can dramatically accelerate weight loss.

The ingredients in Lipovox also, according to the research, have dramatic anti-aging properties (free radical scavengers) that replenish the skin, eradicates wrinkles (even acne) and increases libido. The downside is its $69 per bottle price.

Lipovox Negatives

Lipovox is not available at any grocery stores – but you wont find any of the best weight loss pills located in grocery stores. I have found Lipovox for sale at Lipovox.com and eBay. This seems to be a concern for a lot of consumers – but Lipovox is also carried by one of the largest online supplement retailers – Fitfuel.com – which greatly adds to the credibility of this diet pill.

They don’t provide supplement facts. But no supplement company really does (somebody could try to replicate their patented formula). Not a huge deal, but I wish the Lipovox company would.

Lipovox Positives

Green Tea is an effective ingredient for weight loss and they have it in there. Green Tea is one of the best weight loss supplements available and is used in the best selling diet pills available. The other ingredients are certainly healthful and, based upon the Lipovox testimonials and clinical studies, have been show to greatly improve skincare.
A huge benefit is that Lipovox offers a 100% moneyback and satisfaction guarantee. Unlike a huge majority of supplements out there, Lipovox.com does not try and rope you into an ‘autoship program’.

Lipovox Conclusion

Overall, Lipovox is a great weight loss pill / nutritional well being supplement that may help you lose weight and supports healthy skin. There are a lot of customer testimonials available both negative and positive, but even the negative ones speak highly of the moneyback and satisfaction guarantee. The positives speak of terrific weight loss results and a reduction of wrinkles and acne. Lipovox has been around for over 5 years and is carried by major online supplement retailers.

In 1975, while researching a book on the effect of natural food substances on hunger, South Florida weight loss physician and author Sanford Siegal developed a proprietary mixture of certain amino acids and baked them into a cookie intended to control his patients’ hunger. He instructed his patients to consume six cookies (approximately 500 calories) during the day to control hunger, and a reasonable dinner (300 calories) in the evening. His “cookie diet” was an immediate success, and within a few years his practice had grown to 14 clinics in Florida and 10 in Latin America. By the mid-1980s, more that 200 other physicians were using Dr. Siegal’s approach and products in their own practices. Soon, Dr. Siegal introduced shake mixes and soup with the same hunger-controlling properties.

From 2002 to mid-2006, Dr. Siegal licensed U.S. Medical Care Holdings, LLC to open franchised weight loss centers that used Dr. Siegal’s name, weight loss system, and hunger-controlling cookies, shakes and soup. The company opened dozens of centers in the United States and Canada under various names including Siegal Smart for Life Weight Management Centers.

The relationship between Dr. Siegal and his former franchisee ended in August 2006. Dr. Siegal no longer supplies his products or licenses his name and weight loss system to USMCH. On September 25, 2008, USMCH filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to Forbes .
In 2007, Dr. Siegal and his son, Matthew Siegal, formed a company to bring Dr. Siegal’s cookies and other products directly to the public. Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet is distributed through web site CookieDiet.com : three Siegal Medical Group clinics in South Florida; and doctors, drug stores and other retailers in the United States, Canada, and Latin America.

There are also eight company-owned retail locations in California, Florida, Virgnia, New Jersey, and Arizona. Siegal is also opening a new cookie-diet retail location in Beverly Hills. In January 2009, Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet was featured in a People magazine cover story.

Also known as suction-assisted lipectomy or lipoplasty, liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure in which fat is suctioned out of the body from specific areas of localized fat deposits. Liposuction is not considered “weight loss” surgery as its goal is to reshape and redefine the contours of the body in areas that are resistant to reducing via diet and exercise.

Who Is a Good Candidate:

Liposuction is of the most benefit to patients who are at or near their ideal weight (within 30%) but still have disproportionate localized deposits of fat that are resistant to the effects of exercise and dieting. The best candidates for liposuction are non-smokers who are generally in good health and who have a positive outlook and realistic expectations about the procedure’s outcome.

An ideal liposuction candidate will also have good skin elasticity and muscle tone. In fact, if a patient has already lost a significant amount of weight and has a lot of loose hanging skin, liposuction may only worsen those problems.

What Liposuction Cannot Do:

Liposuction can’t take off that extra 50 pounds you’ve put on over the last 10 years. Generally, the amount of fat removed during a typical liposuction surgery ranges from 1 to 10 pounds. While larger amounts of fat can be removed, large volume liposuction is associated with increased safety risks, skin rippling, and contour irregularities.
Liposuction will usually not reduce cellulite. However, there are some newer treatments that show promise in this regard, such as SmartLipo acoustic wave therapy and the Rejuveskin procedure, any of which may be able to be performed as an adjunct to traditional liposuction.

Pre-Operative Considerations:

Your surgeon will examine you and order pre-op lab tests to confirm your health status. This examination will include a full health history and most likely a detailed weight history. He or she may also require that you adjust, cease, or begin taking certain medications — including avoiding aspirin, many anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements — for 2 weeks prior to surgery.

Recovery & Downtime :

Most patients can return to non-strenuous work (desk jobs) after just 2 to 3 days. Strenuous work or exercise should not be resumed until at least 2 to 3 weeks have passed, depending on the extent of your procedure and which areas have been treated. As with all surgery, it is important to understand that these guidelines can vary widely based on a patient’s health, the techniques used, and other variables surrounding the surgery. Regardless, it is important to take care not to subject the incision sites to excessive force, abrasion, or motion during the healing period. Report any severe pain to your doctor.

Risks & Complications :

Risks and possible complications include:
·	excessive bleeding or hematoma
·	necrosis (tissue death)
·	fat clots
·	anesthesia risks
·	persistent swelling or pain
·	asymmetry
·	changes in skin sensation
·	deep vein thrombosis
·	cardiac and pulmonary complications
·	damage to nerves, blood vessels, muscles and organs
·	unfavorable scarring, skin discoloration, contour irregularities, sagging of the skin, or other unsatisfactory aesthetic results need for additional surgery. Call your surgeon immediately if chest pain, shortness of breath, unusual heartbeats or excessive bleeding occur after the surgery.

Costs:

The average total cost of liposuction varies widely depending on the size and number of areas being treated, as well as the specific techniques used. The range per treated area is usually between $2,000 and 4,000, but it can be as wide as $1,500 to 7,500. The cost discrepancies have to do with the complexity of the procedure, your geographical area, and your surgeon’s skills, qualifications, and reputation. Some surgeons may even offer substantial discounts if multiple areas are done in the same surgery. Total costs include surgeon’s fee, anesthesia, facility and lab fees, medications, and compression garments.

Complementary Procedures:

Since many women look to liposuction as a way to balance out the proportions of the body, it is often done in conjunction with a breast augmentation or breast lift. Furthermore, for patients who also have loose skin in addition to excess fat in some areas, a tummy tuck or body lift procedure may be performed to enhance the patient’s overall result. For some, a breast reduction (via traditional techniques or via liposuction) may be chosen as well.

Seeing Your Results :

Post-op swelling and bruising can be significant with liposuction, so results can not be fully judged for a period of at least 1 to 3 months after surgery. While most bruising will fade within 2 to 4 weeks, some residual swelling may take as long as six months to resolve fully. Today’s liposuction normally involves the use of very small incisions, which usually fade over time to be virtually undetectable. The intended result of liposuction surgery is a more refined contour and better-balanced body proportions. For more information, please see “How Long Will the Results of My Liposuction Last?”

How Liposuction is Done:

1.	Pre-Op Preparations
The surgeon takes pre-op photos and marks targeted areas on the body while the patient is in a standing position. IV fluid lines will often be put in place to help regulate fluid levels during surgery. In addition, the patient may be placed on monitors to keep track of heart rate, blood pressure, and blood oxygen levels during the procedure.
2.	Anesthesia Is Administered
Medications are administered for your comfort during the procedure. Sometimes, a general anesthetic is used so that you will be asleep for the procedure. However, liposuction may also be performed using a combination of local anesthesia and intravenous sedation. Your surgeon will recommend the best choice for you.
3.	Incisions Are Made
Typically, liposuction incisions are very small (about 1/8- to 1/2-inch each) and your surgeon will take care to place the incisions where they will be well hidden in natural body creases whenever possible. Often, when treating larger areas, there are multiple incisions made for each treated area.
4.	The Fat is Prepared for Suctioning
There are a variety of techniques available to today’s plastic surgery patients, and I’ve detailed them for you in the following article: Today’s Options in Liposuction Techniques
5.	The Fat is Suctioned
Small hollow metal tubes, called cannulas, are inserted through the incisions. The cannulas are moved in a controlled back and forth motion to loosen and suction the fat, which is drained through the tubes into waiting receptacles.
6.	Incisions Are Closed
The incisions are closed with surgical sutures. In some cases, small tubes will be placed at incision sites to help drain excess fluid.
7.	Post-Op Care and Instructions
After surgery, you will be taken to a recovery area where you will likely be given a compression garment to wear to control swelling in the treated areas and help your skin conform to your new body shape. You will likely go home after a few hours, unless your surgeon determines that you need to stay in the facility overnight. When you do go home, arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and stay with you for at least 24 hours.

The concept of Weight Watchers began in the early ‘60s when overweight housewife Jean Nidetch, invited friends to her New York home to discuss how to lose weight. They joined her in following a diet recommended by Jean’s dietician and began meeting regularly to discuss how they were getting on. As the group expanded, Jean joined forces with businessman Al Lippert and Weight Watchers was born.

More than 40 years on, Weight Watchers International claims to have helped millions of people around the world to lose weight. Last year alone, 6,500 meetings were held in the UK each week – around 25 percent more than a decade ago. But ironically, as the Weight Watchers emporium continues to grow, so too, do our waistlines. The question is, can Weight Watchers really help us lose weight and more importantly, keep it off?

How does Weight Watchers work?

Weight Watchers effectively promotes a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet, to encourage weight loss. The Weight Watchers programme is called Switch and consists of two different diets: The Points Plan – this allows you to eat and drink anything you like as long as you stick to a daily Points allowance. Or The Core Plan – this allows you to eat from a set list of healthy or ‘Core’ foods. There’s no limit on quantity – you simply eat until you feel comfortable. You also have a weekly Points allowance for treats. You can ‘switch’ between the two programmes at any time.Tell me more about the Weight Watchers Point System Every food and drink has a Points value. Points are calculated according to the calorie and saturated fat content of foods and the portion size. However, the exact formula used is kept a closely guarded secret by Weight Watchers. As a guideline though, the more calories a product contains, the higher its Points value. With the Point system, you simply add up the Points values of the foods you eat and drink in a day and make sure you don’t go over your daily Points allowance.

So how do I know how many Points I’m allowed?

Your group leader will advise you on this at your first meeting. Alternatively, if you become an online member of Weight Watchers, you’ll be advised on the number of Points you should have each day after entering your personal details. Your daily Points allowance is based on your weight, height, gender, age and level of activity during the day.
In general, the more weight you have to lose, the more Points you are allowed each day. For example, a 37-year-old female who weighs 12 stone and has a desk job is allowed 19 Points a day. If that same person weighed 16 stone, she’d be allowed 24 Points a day. On average, most people have 20 Points a day.

What if I don’t know how many Points there are in a food?

Members who attend weekly meetings receive free Points finders to help them calculate the Points from food using calories and saturated fat details. Also materials handed out at meetings when you first join contain basic food lists.
Members can also buy a Points calculator and/or a Shopping Guide with the Points values for branded and supermarket foods. Weight Watchers on line members and members who attend weekly meetings but are also signed up for internet support (eSource) have online access to a database that includes the Point values for almost 30,000 foods and a Points calculator.

What if I’m really active?

Doing more exercise earns you more Points. For example, 20 minutes of aerobics will add an extra 1 Point to your weekly total, whereas 20 minutes of jogging will add an extra 4 Points. You can earn as many activity Points in a week as you wish. However, you are only allowed to spend 12 of the extra Points each week on food. The idea is to earn more than you eat.

Tell me more about Weight Watchers Core Plan?

Quite simply, you eat as much as you want from a list of ‘healthy’ foods such as fruit, veg, wholegrain cereals, lean meat, chicken, fish, eggs, brown rice, potatoes, skimmed milk and low-fat dairy products.
You should aim to eat three meals a day and only eat until you are comfortably full (not stuffed!). You are then allowed a weekly allowance of 21 Points, which you can use for treats or snacks.

Weight Watchers Core Plan is based on foods that a have a low calorie value relative to their actual weight, in other words, they have a low energy density. According to Weight Watchers, research shows that people tend to eat the same weight of food each day, regardless of the calories it contains. So by eating mostly foods with a low energy density you’ll feel satisfied on fewer calories. At the same time you’re encouraged to use a scale to help you identify feelings of hunger and fullness.

How does Weight Watchers online membership compare to Weight Loss Resources?

There are many differences. For example, Weight Watchers doesn’t allow you to opt to lose weight more slowly, for example, 1lb or 1.5lb a week, by giving you a slightly higher Points allowance. Plus, there’s no indication given about how long it will take you to reach your goal.

Unlike WLR, when you complete the Weight Watchers food diary there’s no information provided about the daily number of servings of fruit and veg you’ve had, the amount of water you’ve consumed or the amount of calories and grams of fat and fibre you’ve had – all things that help to highlight whether or not you’re eating a healthy, balanced diet.
The main difference however, is the lack of information about calories, even for recipes. The entire focus is on Points. This means you need to calculate the Points values of pretty much everything you eat and drink – and of course, if you have to log on to do this or search for your Points calculator, it’s more time consuming than simply reading the calorie information on the back of food packets.

What are the pros?

No foods are banned! If you follow the Points plan, you can eat or drink whatever you like, providing you stick to your daily Points allowance. There are more restrictions for the Core Plan, but ultimately, you’re still allowed treats. Weight Watchers could be a good choice if you don’t like the hassle of counting calories – although you need to be aware that you’ll still have the hassle of working out the Points values of many foods!

Ultimately, both the Points Plan and Core Plan encourage you to eat more healthily – the Core Plan only lets you chose from healthier foods with a few treats each week, while on the Points Plan, if you want to stick to your daily allowance you need to opt for lower-calorie, lower-fat foods such as fruit, veg, chicken, lean meat and wholegrain cereals. Weight Watchers weekly meetings can be a good choice if you find it hard to diet on your own and like the idea of having support from others on a personal level. They also provide opportunities for making new friends.

And the cons?

Whether you opt for weekly meetings or Weight Watchers online, it’s pricey, and if either of the diets don’t suit you, you’ll end up losing pounds from your purse rather than your waistline. It can also be just as time consuming – if not more so – to work out the Points values of foods than it would be to simply count calories.

Many of the Points values included in the Weight Watchers database are based on portions rather than actual weights. Whilst there’s a portion size chart to help you identify what counts as, for example, a ‘medium’ portion, this is still far less accurate than including the actual weight to give an accurate calorie or Point value. Meanwhile, with the Core Plan it’s still possible to consume large amounts of ‘healthy’ foods from the ‘free’ list with the result that you gain rather than lose weight.

What options are available for joining Weight Watchers?

The classic membership involves joining a Weight Watchers meeting near to where you live or work. Alternatively, you can become an online member. Members who attend weekly meetings also have the option of receiving online support at any time of night or day with eSource, although you pay extra for this service. Finally, there is a Weight Watchers At Home service that provides you with monthly information by post. Here’s some more information on each.

Weight Watchers Meetings

Quite simply you find a meeting in a convenient location for you, join the class and then attend once a week. At your first meeting, you’ll agree your weight loss goals with your leader and find out more about the two eating plans. If you decide to try the Points Plan your group leader will calculate your daily Points allowance. Each week you’ll have a confidential weigh-in and your group leader will lead a 30-minute discussion on different aspects of weight loss. You’ll also have the support of other members to help you stay motivated.

There’s an initial joining fee of £9, then each weekly class costs £4.95 or £4.25 if you are 60 or over. However, at certain times of the year there are sometimes offers available. Finding your nearest class is easy too. Simply log on to the Weight Watchers website and enter your postcode or call the hotline. You don’t need to make an appointment – simply turn up.

Weight Watchers Online

Weight Watchers offers an online alternative for people who don’t want to attend weekly meetings. Becoming an online member gives you access to the Core Plan and Points Plan, a Points Calculator, a Weight Tracker, progress charts, recipes, weekly emails and message boards. Once signed up, you enter details of your age, gender, activity levels, weight and height and you’ll discover how many Points you’re allowed each day.

An online membership costs an initial subscription fee of £29.95 plus the £9.95 monthly membership fee (£39.90 in total for the first month), then £9.95 a month after that.

Weight Watchers eSource

Weight Watchers also offers an ‘Internet companion’ service for members who attend weekly meetings but want additional support during the week to help them stay on track. This effectively provides weekly members with all the same information they’d receive if they were online members.

In addition to the fee for the weekly meetings, eSource costs £15 for the first three months then £6.95 for each extra month.

Weight Watchers at Home

Weight Watchers at Home allows you to follow one of the Weight Watchers plans from home. All the information is sent to you via post. This option costs £44.85 for a three-month subscription or £69.70 for a six-month subscription.

Are group leaders trained?

Group leaders aren’t medically qualified but they are trained to help people change their eating habits, activity habits and the way in which they think. Leaders go through an interview process with the area manager and if successful, attend weekend workshops for intensive training. They then shadow existing leaders before running their own meetings. All leaders have eight training sessions a year with their regional trainers and area manager, plus annual training with the national training team.

Group leaders have all lost weight with Weight Watchers, too, so have had first hand experience of the diets and the highs and lows linked with trying to lose weight.

How much weight can I expect to lose?

Weight Watchers encourages a steady weight loss of 2lb a week.

Can anyone join?

Weight Watchers isn’t right for everyone. It’s not suitable for pregnant women or those suffering with eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. If you discover you are pregnant when you’re already a member, you’re only allowed to follow the programme for the first 12 weeks. Children under the age of 10 aren’t allowed to join and under 18s aren’t allowed to become online members.

People with medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or gallstones, for example, are also advised to see their GP first before starting the plan. Women who are breast-feeding can join Weight Watchers after their baby is six weeks old providing they’ve had their post-natal examination and have their doctor’s approval.
Finally, you need to be at least 5lb heavier than your minimum weight to join. Minimum weights are based on a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 20.

How is my goal weight set?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is used for setting goal weights. To be at goal, you need to have a BMI within the range of 20-25. Each person sets their own goal weight within this range. Weight Watchers also recognise the importance of losing 10 percent of body weight, in terms of the health benefits it brings, and so includes this as one of the target weight.

Bariatric Surgery – What Are the Options?

The American Society for Bariatric Surgery defines two main types of weight loss surgery: restrictive and malabsorptive. Restrictive procedures are designed to create a feeling of fullness immediately after meals, naturally decreasing food intake or the desire for food. Malabsorptive procedures reduce the amount of food the body can naturally absorb; these types of procedures involve intercepting the natural digestion and absorption process so that the body simply cannot take in more calories.
Lapband surgery or gastric banding, or gastric lap band surgery involves restricting the amount of food that is allowed into the stomach. This procedure involves inserting a tube around the stomach and filling it up with a saline solution; this tightening process shrinks the stomach size, making it difficult to consume a large amount of food at any given time. The lapband is adjustable, which means the bariatric surgeon can tighten and control the tube to achieve the desired weight loss results.

Gastric bypass surgery

this weight loss procedure involves altering the digestive tract so that food cannot be assimilated into the body in a natural way. This is the most popular type of bariatric surgery today, and continues to deliver outstanding results. The procedure involves making small incisions in the abdomen – either with a surgical instrument or a laser – and then creating a small ‘pouch’ from the stomach tissue. The small intestine is then attached to the stomach pouch so that food (calories) is digested and absorbed only in this area. Variations of these bariatric surgery procedures include:
·	Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery
·	Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
·	Roux-en-Y Gastric bypass surgery

Are You a Good Candidate for Bariatric Surgery?

Anyone interested in pursuing bariatric surgery or extreme weight loss surgery may also need to undergo a thorough psychological analysis. This ensures that you will be treated for any underlying psychological conditions that may have led to excessive weight gain in the first place.

What to Expect After Weight Loss Surgery

Each type of weight loss surgery procedure requires various levels post-operative care, and most patients will need nutritional counseling and support after the treatment is over. Behavioral therapy and nutritional counseling play a critical role in maintaining results after weight loss surgery and keeping up with healthy lifestyle habits. Counseling can also help you adjust to your new body and make sure they receive the care and support you need for your new lifestyle. Fitness therapy or consulting with a personal trainer may help with the adaptation process.

In addition to following a strict diet plan, you may be required to maintain a food diary, take nutritional supplements, drink 8-10 glasses of water per day, and remain physically active. Joining a support group can help relieve the stress and pressure associated with the dramatic changes, and the bariatric surgeon and weight loss counselor can refer you to the appropriate support groups in their area.

Bariatric Surgery Costs

Gastric bypass surgery continues to be the most effective long-term solution for weight loss, and some insurance companies do pay for the procedure if they deem it medically necessary for health. According to ObeseHelp.net, over 75% of patients are expected to lose 75 – 80% of their excess body weight after gastric bypass, and many patients are able to reduce their dependency on drugs and medication for health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and arthritis. The cost of bariatric surgery varies widely depending on the location of the treatment center, the type of surgery involved, bariatric surgeon fees, and outpatient treatment needed to maintain results. The average cost of Lap-Band surgery in the United States is $17,000 – $30,000; the average cost of gastric bypass surgery is $20,000 – $35,000

Mesotherapy treatments have been performed throughout Europe, South America, and more recently the United States for over fifty years. However, some physicians have expressed concern over the efficacy of mesotherapy, arguing that the treatment hasn’t been studied enough to make a determination.

The primary issue is that mesotherapy for the treatment of cosmetic conditions hasn’t been the subject of gold standard clinical trials; however the procedure has been considerably studied for the treatment of other ailments, such as tendonitis, tendon calcification, dental procedures, cancer, cervicobrachialgia, arthritis, lymphedema, and venous stasis. Further, there have been case series and numerous medical papers on the mesotherapy as a cosmetic treatment, as well as studies that employ the ingredients used in mesotherapy. The other side of the debate is expressed by Rod Rohrich, M.D., Chairman, Dept. of Plastic Surgery, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas: “There is simply no data, no science and no information, to my knowledge, that mesotherapy works,” according to Rod Rohrich, M.D., Chairman, Dept. of Plastic Surgery, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons issued a position statement not endorsing mesotherapy, but this non-endorsement is the subject of some controversy. Since mesotherapy isn’t a surgical treatment but, rather, a non-invasive alternative to plastic surgery, the treatment competes with plastic surgery for the same patients.

The FDA cannot control the use of practitioners injecting various mixtures into patient’s bodies because this practice falls under the jurisdiction of state medical boards. This is the case because the mesotherapy is considered a “procedure” by state medical boards. The FDA, on the other hand, is mandated to approve foods, dietary supplements, drugs, vaccines, biological medical products, blood products, medical devices, radiation-emitting devices, veterinary products and cosmetics.
Dr. Robin Ashinoff, speaking for the American Academy of Dermatology, says “A simple injection is giving people false hope. Everybody’s looking for a quick fix. But there is no quick fix for fat or fat deposits or for cellulite.” The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery informed its members in February 2005 that “further study is warranted before this chnique can be endorsed.”

Many dermatologists and plastic surgeons are alarmed about the growing profile of mesotherapy. “No one says exactly what they put into the (syringe),” says Naomi Lawrence, a derma-surgeon at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. “One drug they often use, phosphatidylcholine, is unpredictable and causes extreme inflammation and swelling where injected. It is not a benign drug.”

THE NEGATIVE CALORIE DIET APPROACH

Thousands have lost an enormous amount of weight eating what is commonly referred to as “negative calorie foods”. The program is based on the theory that the overall effect of certain foods in our body is that of “negative calories”. Negative calorie foods are foods, which use more calories to digest than the calories the foods actually contain! I’ve personally lost 7 pounds in 3 days on the program and it’s my favorite way to diet because I love fruits, vegetables and fish.

Three Online Negative Calorie Resources:

The first resource is the most inexpensive of the three. It’s called the Negative Calorie Food List Report . It doesn’t offer a negative calorie diet program, but it does reveal the entire list of negative calorie foods. It also offers bonus traditional diets like the Grapefruit Diet and the Cabbage Soup Diet. You get the report as a free bonus when you download the Secret Recipes cookbook.

The second resource is the Negative Calorie Foods Cookbook . It offers three negative calorie diet programs and includes a great negative calorie food cookbook. It’s designed to help increase your sluggish metabolism.

The third resource is the Low Carb Negative Calorie Diet plan. It’s unique program combines the weight loss power of the low carb diet and the negative calorie effect.

Supplements Can Be Just as Powerful as Weight Loss Drugs – Ephedra
The distinction between prescription versus non-prescription weight loss pills is becoming blurred. Because certain types of weight loss supplements (non-prescription pills) can be just as powerful/dangerous as weight loss drugs. Except that these weight loss supplements are NOT regulated in the same way as prescription weight loss pills, so if anything they can be more dangerous. Recently, the FDA issued warnings about weight loss supplements containing ephedra. So several manufacturers are now removing ephedra from their weight loss products and making them “ephedra-free.”

Atkins Diet

The Atkins diet may be one of the most well-known fad diets. It is a high-protein, high-fat, low-carbohydrate plan. This diet has been around for decades and has undergone many revisions. The previous plan allowed for unrestricted amounts of meat, cheese, and eggs while severely restricting carbohydrates, including sugar, bread, pasta, milk, fruits, and vegetables.

The Atkins diet web site states the current plan “is about eating delicious and healthy foods, which makes it so much better than any of those fad diets out there. You eat a variety of your favorite foods — lean protein, leafy greens, vegetables, nuts, fruits, whole grains. Plus, you get delicious Atkins bars and shakes from day one and every step of the way.”

The plan is based on the theory that eating carbohydrates creates a production of insulin , a hormone secreted from the pancreas, leading to increased weight gain and hunger. When converting to this approach, the plan holds that dieters will experience a reduced appetite, and their bodies will use stored fat for energy versus burning glucose from carbohydrate digestion. Burning fat for energy will supposedly lead to weight loss.

Advantages

The most recent version of the Atkins diet is by far the most nutritionally balanced. For the first time, the Atkins diet has placed an emphasis on the kinds of fat being consumed instead of allowing all dietary fats. The monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are now emphasized over saturated and trans fats. The diet has also changed to allow “good carbs” instead of severely restricting all carbohydrates. These foods provide fiber , vitamins, and minerals that were once lacking in this diet. The high amount of protein will be beneficial in keeping you full. Research is clear that protein has a positive impact on increasing satiety, which means that you will feel full between meals.

Disadvantages

The Atkins diet has gone through numerous revisions over the years, though there was never any acknowledgement of flaws in any of the diet plans. Until recently, there have not been any studies on the safety or efficacy of the Atkins diet. Short-term studies have shown improvements in blood cholesterol and blood sugar and an increased weight loss over the first three to six months in comparison to control diets. Unfortunately, the weight loss is not sustained at one year, and the improvements that were seen were due to weight loss and not the actual diet. The long-term safety of low-carbohydrate, high-protein diets is unknown at this time. In a 2007 rating of diet books done by Consumer Reports, the Atkins diet was ranked at the bottom.

There are four phases to the plan, and the first one is severely restricted in carbohydrates. The induction phase lasts two weeks, and the claim is you can lose up to 15 pounds in this time. During this time you consume no more than 20 grams of carbohydrates per day. For example, one slice of bread has 15 grams of carbohydrates, one serving of fruit has 15 grams of carbohydrates, one serving of dairy has 12 grams of carbohydrates, and one serving of vegetables can have between 5 and 15 grams of carbohydrates. It’s clear that 20 grams is extremely limited, potentially unhealthy, and would be very difficult to follow for the long-term.

The Atkins web site states that “depending on how much weight you have to lose, you can safely continue with the induction phase as long as the following three conditions are met:
Your blood chemistries, lipid values, blood pressure or blood sugar levels continue to improve or remain stable and within normal limits. (You will have to visit your doctor to have these levels tested.

You feel well and are experiencing a high energy level, normal sleep patterns, and stable moods. You are not bored. Boredom could lead to cheating and undermine your efforts.”
Most people who follow this diet are not under medical supervision, and this can become a very dangerous situation for them.

The only thing the induction phase seems to be beneficial for is to get people used to losing weight at a fast rate, which will not last and is not healthy. Faster weight loss does not mean healthy weight loss. Any diet that emphasizes fast, easy weight loss is one to approach with caution. The guidelines are clear that a safe, healthy rate of weight loss is to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week after the first couple of weeks. The Atkins diet states you will lose “only body fat” by eating regular meals, taking in adequate calories, and keeping your insulin levels down. There is no way to only lose body fat when losing weight. Each pound you gain from consuming excess calories is 75% fat and 25% muscle, and each pound you lose from cutting back 3,500 calories is the same ratio of fat and muscle. Claims that you will lose only fat are not based on science despite the fact that the Atkins diet claims to be scientifically based.
